Most of the world's cacao originates from tropical regions near the equator, primarily in West Africa, Central and South America, and Southeast Asia.

About 70% of the global cacao supply is produced in West Africa, particularly in Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and Ghana, which are the two largest cacao-producing countries worldwide.

The next largest region is Latin America, where cacao has deep cultural and historical roots, especially in countries like Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and Brazil.

Some of the highest-quality, heirloom varieties come from this region, known for their unique flavor profiles and minimal processing.

In countries like Guatemala and Belize, ceremonial-grade cacao—used specifically for rituals and spiritual practices—remains integral to the culture.

Ceremonial cacao is a revered plant medicine traditionally used by indigenous cultures in Central and South America, especially the Maya and Aztec civilizations.

The beans are minimally processed to maintain their natural chemical profile, especially preserving their abundance of alkaloids, minerals, and antioxidants.

The ritual of drinking cacao is intended to deepen inner connection, open the heart, and elevate the spirit. Cacao ceremonies vary in approach, but they often involve setting intentions, meditative practices, music, or movement, and are typically held in supportive group settings. The cacao itself is usually prepared as a thick, slightly bitter drink, often sweetened lightly and occasionally flavoured with spices like cinnamon or cayenne.

Energetically, cacao is often described as a "heart opener." It can help to enhance mood and can support creative and spiritual work by increasing blood flow and bringing a sense of presence and groundedness. Many people find that cacao helps them connect more deeply to themselves and to others, often bringing about feelings of warmth, love, and insight.

In contemporary practices, ceremonial cacao has grown in popularity as a tool for soul work and creative expansion. It’s embraced by artists, healers, and spiritual seekers who view it as a sacred ally for connecting with inner wisdom and enhancing personal clarity.

We work very closely with our cacao suppliers, making sure that it is 100% ethically sourced and coming from the right energy.
